Tour of the Alameda County Water District’s Fish Ladder & Fish Screen on Lower Alameda Creek

AWWEE’s Bay Area event planning team looks forward to seeing you at their first in-person educational event of 2024.

This tour will showcase the completion of work done by Alameda County Water District (ACWD) and dozens of project partners; 20 years to open up Lower Alameda Creek in Fremont for safe migration of federally listed Central Coast Steelhead and other species for the first time in more than 50 years.

In 2022, ACWD completed construction of the last of many projects in the program, a large fish ladder to allow fish to ascend obstructions in the flood control channel and freely migrate to and from San Francisco Bay. The tour will educate AWWEE guests on how the fish ladders and fish screens work together with several projects along Alameda Creek to protect the environment, habitat and wildlife of the creek and ensure water supply reliability for the people of Fremont, Newark, and Union City.

Please note that part of the tour is along the Alameda Creek Trail. Flat, closed-toe shoes are required, and weather-appropriate attire (comfortable clothing, hats and sunscreen) should be worn because the tour is outdoors. Tour participants are expected to walk from parking area to facilities and back (no more than 1 mile total). The tour requires climbing stairs and standing for a majority of the tour.

Registration

Registration is free for active AWWEE members. Space is limited, so this event is open to active AWWEE members only to start. We may open any available spaces to non-members and guests closer to the event date.
